Home-made Cranberry Sauce with Wine

At Winexpert Burlington we believe there is nothing better than home-made dishes and sauces... especially when made with your own wine!
This home-made Cranberry Sauce is simply delicious and it goes perfectly with your poultry meals... And on fish? YES, on fish too!
Cranberry sauce is so easy to make, you'll wonder why you were using the ol' store-bought canned stuff. Ditch all those artificial sweeteners and make your own, where you can adjust the sweetness and bring out the flavour in these delicious berries.
Easy EASY cranberry sauce with wine ingredients:
  • 1 package of fresh cranberries (you can substitute with frozen, if you can't find fresh)

  • 3/4 Cup of red wine (dry is best, or Port-style is great too)

  • 1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon

  • 1 Tbsp. fresh orange rind

  • 1/4 Cup of brown sugar (or adjust to desired sweetness... you can also use maple syrup!)

  • small pinch of salt (it brings out the juice and flavours of the cranberries!)
     

Here's how to make it:

In a small pot, combine all ingredients, and bring to a medium simmer.

Once it begins to simmer, turn to low temperature, mixing to ensure nothing burns or stick to the bottom. Continue to simmer for about 10 minutes (mixing often) until the cranberries are soft and the sauce has thickened.
