FAQ's

Can I make wine that is as good as store-bought brands?

Yes. At Wine Experts Burlington we are able to produce great quality wines and reduce the amount of sulphites that are typically found in store-bought brands. Store-bought brands add sulphites as preservatives during the manufacturing process because these products could be sitting on a shelf for many years.

The wine-creating process at Winexpert Burlington is under your control. You decide what goes into your wine.

Is it expensive to make wine using a kit?

Not at all.  Since the winemaker (this is you) does not have to add the marketing, warehousing, transportation and labelling,  costs are reduced. The quality isn’t. This means you can make a batch of wine for $4 to $8 a bottle instead of spending $12 to $15 in the store.

Wine Experts Burlington can also supply wines for special events such as weddings, anniversaries, family dinners and corporate celebrations. You can create a great impression with a special wine bottle and also deliver great wine, affordably, to your guests.

I’ve never done any winemaking on-premise, what do I need to know, and how much work is required of me?

We will assist you at all times to whatever extent is required. We provide all the necessary equipment and assistance for you to accomplish this with ease.

The process of making ferment-on-premise starts with choosing the type of wine you want to make and what quality of wine kit you want to use. The legal requirement is for the customer to participate in the wine-making experience. Typically, the winemaker is invited to sprinkle the yeast on the juice to begin fermentation.

After the batch is started the customer has no further obligations until the wine is ready to be bottled. We will call you to book a bottling appointment.  But at any time through the process, you are invited to call the store and see what stage your wine is at.  When you arrive for your bottling appointment, the bottles are machine washed, filled & corked. Once bottled, labels and shrink caps are added.

How long will it take before I can drink the wine?

Wine Experts Burlington offers you the choice of  4, 6 and 8-week wine kits. Our 4-week wines are usually ready to drink a few weeks after bottling. Our 6-week wines require a longer aging time (at least 2 to 3 months).  For best results, our 8-week wine kits require 6 months of cellaring time.

What kinds of wines are available? What is the alcohol content?

A huge variety. We offer a series of premium kits from Winexpert to suit most tastes and budgets. Please see our Wine Kits made by Winexpert. Our wine menu has sweetness indicators next to the wine names. Most of our wine kits have a dry finish, but we can customize the levels to your taste. Just ask us!

The alcohol level in our wines ranges from 11% to 14.5%.

Do I need to bring my own bottles? How many do I need?

The goal is to make it really easy for you. If you don’t have your own bottles, we offer a selection of bottles to purchase. These bottles have different styles and vary in prove from $1 upwards. You have choices! A typical batch of wine needs 30 bottles (750ml).

We don’t encourage people to use champagne-type bottles that have really narrow necks. The automatic corking machines don’t like these very much and so the bottles will need to be corked by using a manual corker.

If I bring my own bottles, can I clean them when I come in to bottle?

Yes. You can bring your bottles to the store and we will clean them in our bottle washing machine. The machine can accommodate 750ml, 1.5L and 2L bottles.

Before bringing the bottles to our store, it makes sense to have rinsed your wine bottles soon after emptying them (at home) and then storing the rinsed bottles upside down to avoid contamination by foreign objects, dust, insects etc.

Do I have to remove the labels before I come to the store?

No. However, our washing machine isn’t designed to remove labels, so if you don’t mind having another label on the bottle, we don’t mind either. If you want clean bottles to then apply customs labels, it would be better to remove the label at home prior to washing at the store.

Can I store my wine in the store where I made it?

Sorry, we are not allowed to store your bottles of wine for any time.  You must take them with you once bottled.
